Dear Machine is a desktop writing tool. Use it in the apps you already work in, or keep a longer recording as a note.
Dictation
Press the shortcut, speak, then release. Dear Machine transcribes the recording and inserts the result at your cursor. Review the text before sending or publishing it.
Email drafts
Describe who you are writing to and what you want to say. Get an editable draft with a subject, greeting, body and sign-off. The app does not send email.
Notes and summaries
Record a meeting or lecture and keep the transcript alongside an editable summary, decisions and action items. Get permission from everyone involved before recording.
Work with selected text
Select text and give an explicit instruction, such as “Explain this” or “Rewrite this”. Highlighting text alone does not trigger a request.
Choose your processing
Local processing is the default. You can also connect a supported cloud provider with your own API key. Cloud use can send audio or text to that provider and may cost extra.
