Local processing
Local speech recognition and text processing run on your computer. With local models selected, your audio and text are not sent to a cloud transcription or language-model provider. Download the required models before using them offline.
Optional cloud services
If you enable cloud transcription or a cloud language model, the relevant audio or text is sent directly over HTTPS to the provider you choose. You supply your own API key. The provider's retention policies and terms apply, and usage may be billed separately.
History and notes
Dictation history is off by default. If enabled, it is stored locally in SQLite and is not separately encrypted by Dear Machine. Saved notes also remain on your computer. Consider who can access your device and backups.
Purchases and activation
Purchases and licence activation use Dodo Payments. These functions, and downloading models, require an internet connection. Offline local processing does not mean every app function is offline.
Recording other people
Obtain the required consent before recording. Review important output: transcription and summaries can contain errors.
